The letter
For an evening when something has been left unsaid.
Light the candle. Wait for the first dark around the wick to soften.
Take paper. Not your phone — paper. Write to someone you have not spoken to in a year. It does not have to be your mother. It does not have to be your beloved. Write what you would say if time did not exist.
You do not have to send it. Fold the letter. Place it under the base of the candle. Leave it there until the flame itself decides it has been made ready.
The scent you breathe now is what you will remember a year from now when you think back to this evening. Choose it with care.
The candle for this moment
