How to choose a scented candle
There is no "best" scented candle — only the right one for your moment. Instead of choosing by name, work from the inside out: first the feeling, then the scent, then the practical. Five steps.
1. Start from the mood
Do not ask which scent you find "nice", but how you want to feel: calm, awake, held, far away. Our collections are built around moods — tenderness, calm and travel — precisely to make that choice easy.
2. Pick a scent family
Translate the mood into a family. Warm and held → woody or amber. Clear and awake → fresh or green. Cosy → gourmand. Soft → floral. That narrows ten candles to two or three.
3. Size and burn time
Small candles burn about 22–25 hours, medium 45–65 hours and large 180–200 hours. For a gift or a daily ritual, medium is the safest choice; for a big gesture or a large room, choose large.
4. Check the quality
Choose natural wax (soy and beeswax, not paraffin), a cotton or wood wick and real fragrances. Hand-poured candles from small batches are finished more carefully than mass production. Every Elenvelle is hand-poured in Holten, the Netherlands.
5. Think about the room
A small bathroom or bedroom calls for a lighter, fresh scent; a large living room carries a warm, woody or amber scent better. That way the fragrance never feels too strong or too faint.
Frequently asked
- Which scented candle suits me best?
- Start from how you want to feel, then choose the matching scent family and a medium size. If you are still unsure, a warm woody scent is the most widely loved choice.
- Is a more expensive scented candle worth it?
- The price sits in the wax, the amount of fragrance and the finish. A hand-poured candle from natural wax burns cleaner, longer and more evenly than a cheap paraffin one — you notice it in the use.
